Teton 3400 Review: When you’re going backpacking, there are a lot of things that can make a big difference to your experience and there are countless purchases you need to make to ensure that you will have everything you need to be safe and to really enjoy your trip.
But nothing is going to be quite so important as your backpack. It’s called backpacking after all! Your backpack will determine how comfortable you are when you’re travelling, it will help to protect your back, it will set the number of pockets and compartments you have access to…
And on top of all that, it needs to be tough enough to stand up to some punishment when you’re hiking up the side of a mountain in a blizzard.
We’ve only picked one backpack and that’s the TETON Sports Scout 3400. Let’s take a closer look and see why it is the absolute stand-out option for travellers…View more details.
This is a well-made bag that uses a light-but-tough polyester material and smart placements for its various pockets and compartments. The internal frame ensures that the bag keeps it shape and that prevents your things from being crushed. It also means that the weight will remain evenly distributed across your back.
This is a ‘sports’ backpack, which means it’s intended for rigorous use. That’s good news because it means it has been designed with pads in all the right places to keep you comfortable and with mesh lumbar support. There’s a waist strap too and generally you can expect to head up to the top of mountains with it without being in crippling pain (always a nice bonus!). It only weighs 4.5lbs too, so it won’t add too much bulk itself.
The size is also good. It’s 30’’ x 17’’ x 12’’ with a cubic inch capacity of 3,400 (55 litres). To us, this is a good balance between storage and size – remaining practical while still carrying most of your items. Another great feature is an adjustable torso length, meaning it should fit most people. That said, if you’re planning on staying in hostels and not doing any hiking, then you might get away with something smaller and lighter.
TETON seems to have thought of everything, including adding a sleeping bag compartment at the bottom so that you can store that easily. Straps round the front let you add a roll mat or sleeping bag outside if you prefer and there are tons of pockets for storing snacks, rope, sleeping pads and more.
Reviews of this bag are also highly positive on Amazon, with users reporting that it’s comfortable and offers great longevity over multiple journeys. Compared with the competition, it’s well priced too.
Overall, this is a very smartly designed backpack that should offer just the right balance of form and function. It looks good, feels good but has enough space and compartments for any backpacker. If you’re planning on doing big hikes then this will offer everything you need. So if you’re itching to set off on your travels, consider putting an order in now so you’ll be ready to set off into the sunset!
